Animals & Adventures proved to be a hugely successful and well-attended winter concert for Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra. The vibrant programme delighted the audience, combining orchestral storytelling with much-loved film and classical favourites inspired by the natural world and epic journeys. Highlights included the UK premiere of Orchestral Stories – My Neighbour Totoro by Joe Hisaishi, beautifully narrated by BBC Derby presenter Becky Measures, alongside thrilling performances from The Lord of the Rings, War Horse, Dances with Wolves and The Jungle Book. The atmospheric staging and engaging presentation created a memorable evening, warmly received by a packed and enthusiastic audience at the Winding Wheel Theatre.

Looking ahead, the orchestra’s Spring concert, Romantic Classics, promises an evening of expressive and richly coloured music on Saturday 21st March 2026 at Matlock County Hall. Under the musical direction of River Edis-Smith, the programme will feature Weber’s dramatic Overture Euryanthe, Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto in E minor performed by soloist Coraleigh Kelly-Edwards, and Brahms’ powerful Symphony No. 2. This concert offers a wonderful opportunity to experience some of the most loved works of the Romantic era in an intimate and elegant setting.
